Located on the Caribbean, Playa del Carmen is a quaint village where the ferry boat crosses to Cozumel Island.
A few decades ago it was a deserted beach where Indian families raised coconut palms to produce copra. Nowadays its alabaster-white beach & offshore reefs attract swimmers, snorkelers & turtle watchers. It has become a small, cosmopolitan town with a number of nice restaurants & boutiques along the main boulevard that is referred to as "Fifth Avenue".

Real Playa del Carmen is a 45 minutes drive from the international airport at Cancun & is on the corridor between Cancun & Tulum. A short distance from Real Playa del Carmen is Xcaret, a fascinating ecological theme park, the Xel-Ha aquarium & ancient Tulum, where the Mayan kings & priests vacationed more than 1,100 years ago.
